To place an iPhone 11 in iTunes (Recovery) Mode, follow these steps:

Step 1: Ensure You Have a Computer & Latest iTunes

  • On Mac: If you’re running macOS Catalina or later, use Finder instead of iTunes.
  • On Windows: Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.

Step 2: Connect Your iPhone to the Computer

  • Use a Lightning cable to connect your iPhone 11 to your computer.
  • Open iTunes (Windows/macOS Mojave or earlier) or Finder (macOS Catalina and later).

Step 3: Force Restart Your iPhone

To enter Recovery Mode, follow this sequence exactly:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side (Power) button until you see the Recovery Mode screen (a computer icon with a cable).

Important: Keep holding the Side button even after you see the Apple logo—only release when the Recovery Mode screen appears.

Step 4: Choose an Option in iTunes/Finder

Once your iPhone is in Recovery Mode, you will see a pop-up on your computer with the following options:

  • Update: Tries to reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
  • Restore: Erases your device and installs a fresh copy of iOS.

If your iPhone stays stuck in Recovery Mode:

  • Try a different Lightning cable or USB port.
  • Restart your computer and retry the process.
  • If needed, use DFU Mode for deeper restoration.
